Well the saga continues. Have some ideas I wish to run past you, so any comments are welcome. First off here are the dimensions of the bbl. .355 land to land, .368 groove to groove, throat .369-.370. Using one of Bullshops boolits I purchased from him I want to enlarge the design. The .355 nose when inserted into the muzzle does give good resistance when putting it in and taking it out.
Since the groove to groove dimension is .368 and throat is .369-.370 I want a fatter boolit. I figure max at .372 so as to be able to size down to .371-.370.
The driving bands would be .372 max. The lube grooves would be .335 wereas the origionals were .340 this would give some extra lube. The gc shank would be enlarged so as to take a .375 gc. i measured the gc shank on lyman #375449 for the 375-38-55 at .350 and the od of a hornady gc at .385. I'm reasonably sure redesigning the origional boolit to take a .375 gc is doable and would give better sealing off of the rest of the boolit from the powder gasses. I would keep the semi spitzer nose except with a .150 meplat. Think I covered all the bases, the length of the redesigned boolit would only be about 25 thousandths longer 1.150
vs 1.125 origional boolit. So if anyone has any comments I'd sure appreciate them

I have a Husky also. With yours being that fat, why don't you get a LEE push thru and size some 375 bullets down. I've done that lots down to 0.367", works good.

.366" nominal boolits that use gas checks use the .375 caliber checks. This is the case with the MM design I have, and with the NEI tools as well.

I agree with your dimensional plan for the boolit. I did a similar thing with the MM mold planning, and was lucky enough to have the driving band portion of the casting take the full length of the throat and the case neck--not extend into the powder space--and just slightly engage the rifling origin. Final weight is 270 grains.

45 2.1 that thought had crossed my mind. I have a mold for the gc lyman .375 boolit. Thats where I got the measurements for the gc shank.
AL, The boolits that I got from Bullshop provided something to work with and hopefully to shoot. The Boolit was placed into the chamber and gently pushed as far forward as possible with light pressure. The freebore allowed the boolit to kiss the start of the rifling and from what I saw the gc was well forward of the shoulder in the chamber. I'd like to thank the guys (you know who you are) that sent me some boolits to play with. Gave me some really valuable info. Thanks again, Frank
