    An 1896 Krag SRC almost.

Found this at the Baltimore Military show. A real deal 1896 Krag Saddle Ring Carbine, just like T.Rs only later, was built in late 1897 but…always a but, the stock had been lightly sanded as the cartouches are about gone and the $$$ carbine rear sight was replaced with a rifle sight. Has a nice blued extractor. As I had sold a revolver and moulds there I’ve only got about a grand in it. A neat addition to my small Krag collection.

Looks like a beauty. On my honeymoon in Alaska, I passed up on a beautiful Krag. Still kicking myself 30 years later. May have been a prudent move, however. I still have the wife. You got a nice one there.

Wow! Great find! Too bad about the rear sight-- they are scarce and amazingly expensive. Nevertheless, a great addition to your collection.

I'm still kicking myself: at the last local gun show before the China Virus a local vendor had a Krag Carbine about like yours, and we all agreed it was legit and not a cut down rifle. I pondered over it, and finally he sold it for $650. It was in pretty decent shape, but I had been trying to thin the herd and passed on it - dern it! Yours looks very good.

My son just bought a 98 Springfield with a 24 inch barrel.(not sure that is original) Also the rear sight on barrel is replaced with a red field peep on receiver. Other than that it looks original and man is that action sloppy snot smooth. Make me wish I would have bought one 50 years ago!

Krag carbines are great handling little guns, no doubt about it.
