Yet another vote for the Smith 69 with Hogue X frame grips.
The mould of my first choice for hunting or target use is a 6cav MP clone of the H&G 503.
For plinking I use the 6 cav Lee 44-200 RNFP.

I have an untouched 3 screw Super BH 1st year that i shoot the daylights out of.
I shoot everything from light 44 specials to full house H&G 250gr 503gc bullets.
My favorite is a 200gr gc over 18.5 296. Very loud and quite the muzzle flash!

For plinking I load 18 grains of 2400 behind a 250 grain lead SWC.

I'm a big fan of the Smith & Wesson Classic series with the lug barrel, interchangeable front sights and there pre-drilled for a scope mount. My favorite for everyday shooting is there 5 inch model. If your able to find a MP 503 H&G copy in aluminum with 6 cavities it will rain bullets good for either 44 special or magnums. Please ignore the tru-glo scope that came with the firearm. It wouldn't keep zero with my loads.

If you are reloading, then there is no advantage to the 44 magnum for your purposes. Brass and molds are just as available in both 41 and 44 calibers. They use the same primers and powders. There's plenty of data for both. I would definitely go for the 41 magnum in this instance.

I'm a double action guy, and my choice is the S&W model 57. The 41 magnum blackhawk is great if you like the super blackhawk though. The 41 magnum version is in the standard blackhawk with an aluminum grip frame, and they are considerably lighter than the 44's. They are about 10 ounces lighter than a super blackhawk. My favorite is the 4 5/8" barrel. You can get the Wigatinny no-drill scope mount for it, which does work well. Drill and tap is always an option too.

I'm a 41 Magnum die hard fan . If you don't like the pounding of the 44 Magnum ... the 41 magnum is answer to your prayers . The 4 5/8" Blackhawk is available ... the 41 Magnum in my avatar , S&W model 58 is a lot harder to come by but a great choice .
Cast boolits and reload for it ...be happy happy .

I saw the number 41, no "Mag" but didn't attach any significance to it. Purely from a 44 point of view.

Yesterday i was shootimg my .44 special with a 20/1 alloy gas checked 260 grain hollow point boolit over 13 of IMR 4227. The book says these should be doing about 900 fps. Would be a nice load I think for those Model 69 people are recommending.

I have a Charter Arms Bulldog with a 21/2 in barrel. I wanted something a little more pleasant to shoot in long range sessions. I finally found a Ruger Super Blackhawk with a 4.6 in barrel and a rounded trigger guard. It’s enough heavier than the Bulldog to be pleasant at the range even with Skeeter loads but is still a handy size. Tim

Anytime somebody says they can't decide between a 2 1/2", a 4", or a 6" barrel I just have to chuckle to myself because my ONE revolver has all 3 plus an 8" barrel. I picked up a Dan Wesson .357 about 30 years ago in a trade, and have loved it from day one. I was fortunate to find a 744 a few years ago with a ported 6" and an plain 8" barrel. I picked up a new 6" barrel from Dan Wesson for about $80 and it has never seen a jacketed bullet (except maybe in testing at the factory). Why not go that route and have a couple different barrel options to suit the occasion? I have not noticed it to be any heavier than the Redhawks or 629s with comparable barrel lengths but accuracy has ALWAYS been better with the DW than with the others.

Now, if I could just find a reasonably priced DW in the .41 mag (just because), my stable will be full and I could die a happy man.

I'm a fan of old 29s but, IF you can find it, a Freedom Arms in .44mag...
