    tannerite explosion noise?

I've never used tannerite so that's why im asking
a few evenings ago someone was shooting down the valley, pretty much normal stuff, from sound they were probably shooting an AR, an AK and maybe a 3006. but then there were a few huge booms, like dynamite at a rock quarry , well that's where ive heard dynamite blast before,
im guessing these folks were shooting maybe a mile away. shots echo through the Vally quite often.
anyway these booms were strong enough to rattle the 100 yr old windows in the house.
    can tannerite do this?

It would depend on how much they used.

Yes. The shock wave can be amplified and redirected by terrain and obstacles in the path.

After posting I realized that amplified is the wrong word to use. Directed would be more accurate. This would allow the shockwave to be more intense at your location.

Tannerite probable - but a 50BMG or Norma .338 can cause quite a pressure wave/noise. Just ask the guys at the range when I shoot my AR50; I usually warn those around me when I am about to fire a round from my AR50.

An acquaintance of mine set off about 5 lbs of Tannerite in the middle of his 25 acres, and a neighbor called the sheriff because they thought a gas line had exploded. This was a rural area and everyone was accustomed to gunfire so there was a discernible difference.

Some of the neighbors shoot off large amounts of it at once. It rattles the windows and the earth too. I hate it. I’m all for freedom, but thank god they don’t exercise their freedom too often or at night much. I find that everyone else hates it too.

When my neighbor about a mile away shoots a jar of it, I feel the blast wave from the explosion. I was about 200 yds away from someone when the shot a pint jar of it placed in a 1/4 inch thick steel hoop 4 feet in diameter. I had my herring protection on and was mostly behind a tree. The blast twisted the steel hoop and threw it about 150 yds away.
Look at some of the tannerite videos on youtube.

Absolutely it will rattle the windows. Same scenario here as well, we have had our windows rattle so badly I thought some might crack. I like to play too, but some people are making poor choices.

Our place sits on a hill with a low valley shape south of us and that is the origin. This seems to concentrate the sound wave????

It is very dangerous when confined. After a couple of events here, I said " That's neat. I don't need to see any more."
    Too loud for me.

I have no need for it, but appears to be good for getting rid of beaver dams or hogs

There is a video on you tube that involves about 160 pounds of tannerite and an old decrepit barn. One shot did the trick. Nothing left except scrap wood. They were shooting some civil war cannon some miles away. The blast traveled down the bayou and really rattled the house. Frank

The Weather can also play a huge part in funneling and directing the sound and keeping it closer to the ground.
The good news is, sound and air blast can do about zero damage beyond some creaks and rattles.

Kind of like thunder & lightning..
Lightning strike damage is common and included with every insurance policy.
But nobody has insurance for thunder damage,, because it just dosent happen,, the overpressure required to actually cause any damage dissipates too quickly and just isent physically possible.

Shooting 1 pound of Tannerite at emagee shoots in VT is sharper, louder at 100 yards than a 2 pound stick of 60% dynamite. Miles from anyone to complain about the noise

We do not allow any explosive targets at my club range to many idiots and it bothers the neighbors. Being polite to the folks around is better IMHO
