Always used the Lyman 454424 for excellent accuracy, good power. Have used the H&G 68 200 grain for 'pleasure', also the 230 RN ACP bullets and some of the lightweights, again for "fun" stuff. The 454424 for 'long range' and where full power and accuracy are required.

Since it was my 1st 45 Colt mold I've always been partial to the RCBS 45-250-FN. It looks more like a cowboy bullet than a semi-wadcutter so that's what drew me to it. It turned out to be real accurate so it's all i used for years.

The Lee 255-FN is also a favorite that shoots well.

I recently got the RCBS 45-270-SAA and like it but haven't really experimented enough to say how it performs.

RCBS 45-250FN has been discontinued, but Accurate 45-246H is very similar and shoots well for me.

    H&G 503 is a .44 caliber bullet. There may be a .45 caliber equivalent. I just don't know.

Accurate 45-251C is the upsized version of John Kort’s famous 43-215C 44-40 design. Has a good ballistic profile for rifle work but still retains about 60% meplat size. Casts around 256 grs. in 40-1 alloy, 250 in WW.

I personally don’t go over 270 grs in 45 LC and believe 250 is about optimal. If I want something heavier, I grab my 45-70 Marlin.

I've been very happy with my RCBS-270-SAA. My experience may be a little different than others though, because I use it in a Redhawk, typically at velocities from 1000-1200 fps.

I've also used it with good success at lower velocities, and also with my .454 Casull Rossi 92 carbine at the high end.

Like others have posted, I like the RCBS 45-270 SAA in the MP 4 cavity version. I also have the RCBS original in a 2 cavity. I also occasionally use an Applegate 300 gr WFN when I want to shoot something heavier(not often).

The old stand bt The Lyman 454424 255 gr SWC and am fond of the 454309 235 gr WC bullet.

I have a 4 cavity NOE version of the 454424 and several other .45 colt bullets but always go back to that old SWC bullet

RCBS 270 SAA with Blue Dot, Red Dot, Universal, 2400 for general shooting.
Lee 325 FNGC with 296/H110 for hunting.

The lube grooves are too small to carry enough lube to keep BP fouling soft, lube starvation occurs in the last 8” of the barrel using Emmerts Improved lube.

Lyman 452664 worked good in both firearms with smokeless & BP just don’t use the sizing die from the Redding die set #80191 for 45 Colt/454 Casull, this is an old style steel die. The problem with this die is it form a very short case neck ~217 thou, the short neck covered only to the bottom edge of the lube groove. Shooting this bullet/sizing die combination was a disaster of fouling and leading. I must use my RCBS die set 19108 it is an old style steel die that forms a case neck ~490 thou long, enough to fully cover the large lube groove and bevel base and beyond of the Lyman 452664 cast bullet. The Redding Duel Ring carbide die for 45. Colt worked ok too. It creates a case neck ~360 thou long, enough to cover crimp groove to base most of my cast bullets.

SAECO #955 great in the revolvers but lube capacity is marginal in the 24” barrel, fewer shots before a wipe out for BP fouling control is required. Worked very well with smokeless in both revolver & rifle.

Accurate Molds 45-260F haven’t cast with this mold yet but the design looks excellent for BP & smokeless, it will require my RCBS case sizing die to get full bullet shank coverage.

I’m not a fan of the SWC bullet style because I always have had problems loading them. The tiny wad cutter lip always snags on the edge of the chambers making loading too fiddly to get the cartridge to drop in.
The PRS bullet is a copy of the Lee 255 with VERY DEEP lube grooves. There are other versions based upon that too. You CAN shoot indefinietly with real black powder and never foul out.

I looked at the PRS 45 Cal 250 grain Big Lube™ six cavity mold.
But the description said “This bullet drops at .456" and weighs a nominal 250 grains as cast with 20:1 alloy”
I needed a bullet that would drop closer to modern 45 Colt barrel size of .451”.
My SAECO #955 drops .456” and upon sizing to .452” the crimp groove is 95% smeared closed by displaced lead the bullet just looks bad from all the displaced lead.
Maybe European built clones of Colt SAA need the bigger bullet diameter but my Ruger NV’s don’t.
I think SAECO has wised up an are now making the #955 in 2 different mold sizes instead one size.

454190, RCBS 45-230-CM and for serious work the RCBS 45-325-FNU downsized for the .45 Colt but that's only for days when I'm feeling froggy. Hurts to shoot that big hummer./beagle
