My indoor range scrap was 20-25% waste. If you can get some money back for jackets, then the deal isn’t unattractive. If not… well, each man must decide for themselves.
Edit: my indoor range scrap. Lots of cardboard. It just burned off.

If it has jackets mixed in, it isn't clean. It's just range scrap. I would definitely pay 50 cents for range scrap though. Most places will take copper jackets. It looks like the average is about $3 a pound at the moment if they consider it clean copper. If they see any lead or anything at all, they will consider it dirty. They might just give dirty price anyway. Still better than nothing though. After smelting wheel weights, and range scrap, I don't foresee ever doing wheel weights again unless I get them free. Range scrap isn't too bad, just need to go slow, and stir a while. It's the sorting of either that is not fun at all.
I picked up 600lbs, I was in town at strip center where range is, noticed forklift and boxes on pallets out front. I stopped and the owner and a couple of hands were removing the scrap, asked and he said thats what the scrap yard was paying him for it and i could have it for that price. I knew the price sounded good, but I have never processed range scrap before. I came home and picked up 4 of the big plastic tubs mineral licks for my cows come in, put 150lbs in each so we could pick them up and get in the bed of the truck.
When I say clean they rake it out on the concrete floor and were using a blower to blow it clean of dirt and the rubber fines, said he had to to get that price at yard.
Get it while you can even if you just store it for a rainy day. It's worth it for that price but is a little labor intensive. Someday you'll wish you had range lead to melt at any price!
Without a second thought. I would even pay 30-50 centz for raw source. Lol i need about 300 lbs of that.

As far as the jackets go, get yourself a heavy pull magnet, at least 250lbs, and make sure you go over the jackets to pull out all the steel. If the scrap yard finds one or two steel jackets, they may only give you steel price. I took a couple of buckets to a local scrap yard a couple of months ago and got $2.10 a pound as dirty yellow brass. This more than payed for propane.
A vote for anyone other then the conservative candidates is a vote for the liberal candidates.
