    Lee 12g keyed slugs

Does anyone have an accurate recipe for a rifled barrel with Lee slugs?
I've shot them out of Rem's rifled bbl (20" I believe) and out of Mossberg's bbl for Rem 870 (24"?) but never had good accuracy.
My recipe was 35 gr HS6, Win AA hull, CCI primer, Win white shot container.
Got 10" at 100 yards. Cyl smooth bore did the same.

I've up and downloaded by at least 1gr with no noticeable variance in the accuracy.
My buddy brags that he shoots a 4-5" groups with them out of a smooth-bore cyl and shows paper plates as a proof. I feel envious.

The problem is not so much the load itself, as the fit of the slug/wad in the Rifled Barrel. If your slug /wad measures around .730 +/- a few .000 it should work OK. If it is below that it won't group,,, period.

If you are trying with a smoothbore then the fit still needs to be there but the ranges it will group are going to be below 50 yards.

There are many more Nuances to loading slugs and they are covered in the "Casting and Reloading for Shotguns" section of the forum.

Pure lead can slump from the force applied to the base . Like hitting it with a hammer. It gets larger in diameter.

Why? This is not a casting question: it is a rifled barrel shotgun quesiton.

Petal shortening may be the key. I can't remember if I did it, been 10y ago. Have to open the leftover rounds and see and possibly pull the slugs and clip.

The petals will fold over nose of slug causing inaccuracies. I didn’t know this until reading a thread on here.
Since the days of Lee 1oz cast slug trials I’ve since been casting the Slugs R Us “Hammerhead” slug.

Best I’d ever done was about a fist sized group at 75 yards with the Lee 1oz.

Load was a PT1205 wad, 45 grs of Blue Dot, Cheddite 2.75” hull, fold crimp.
