I just got done testing those experimental black powder loads. Temperature was around 35 degrees, and the wind blowing. Had only 10 cartridges to test. That was enough for today.

Got work finished early and was thinking going to the range. Went out to get the recycle bin and it was 25 degrees. Opted instead in doing a bit of reloading in the comfort of my own home instead.

Something that I neglected to mention - I do purposely go shoot when it is in the negative double digits. I test all of my hunting rifles and new loads because of where they are used. I have discovered that using certain primers are far less reliable in extreme cold. The one that really sticks in my mind were in my lion hunting rifle - federal small rifle primers resulted in a lot of "clicks" with no subsequent "boom" and several delays between pulling the trigger and discharge in that particular 32 WCF carbine.

I agree! All the snowbirds are gone, the heat is on, and the wimps stay indoors, so I have the range to myself in the afternoons. Something about shooting in 120 weather freaks people out. You just have to be wary of leaving black guns in the sun too long.

You hunt lions in sub-zero weather? Wow, you're by far tougher than I'm and I sail in the winter in Michigan.

And with a 32 WCF. Double wow.

I've been on the range and it was zero. I was cold and my hands hurt.
You can miss fast & you can miss a lot, but only hits count.
