    Dillon beam scale?

Is the Dillon beam scale the same as the RCBS 505? The beam looks the same, but the
base is different. Both are made by Ohaus. Been looking for a 505, but the Dillon looks
to be the same scale. Any info would be great. Thanks.

The base being different means they aren’t the same scale rebranded. Are they mechanically equivalent? Probably.

Hardly matters what color or shape the base comes in, any powder scale made by Ohaus is very good.

Bring up a picture of beam powder scales from all the major players:

Except for Lee, All the major brand scales look like they were made by one company, some with even a few interchangeable parts.

Lee's might be from them too, just a different style. Their old 'safety scale' sure looks a lot like older ones from other labels.
It wouldn't be any harder for them than any other factory making two or three different but similar things.

I have one. Functionality it’s no different from my 505.

The Dillon uses (3) poise to set the weight. Redding, Hornady, Lyman & RCBS current models use a (2) poise method.

You can watch videos on them all. For me, the (3) poise is just easier to use mentally. It is not better or more accurate.

I also find the Dillon easy to read. Just a preference.

Price difference over 20+ years makes them all about the same.

Colour wise, I like the Lyman Orange !!!😂😂

You are quite correct - the whole beam of the Dillon Eliminator is interchangeable with the RCBS 505 as are the agate bearings. Recent Dillon Eliminator's that I have come across have all been made in Mexico.

Here's one I brushed up a while ago:
