I saw this buck twice while bow hunting but never got a shot. Opening day of rifle season I saw him again at about 50 yds.
Cartridge is basically a 338-06 shortened .250. Rifle is a Turkish Mauser with a 1/14” twist. Boolit is a 200 gr from Accurate ahead of enough Reloder 7 to get around 1900 FPS. This is nowhere near full power but it’s accurate, pleasant to shoot and handles deer with ease.

Nice deer, nice hunt, nice rifle and cool cartrage. Just thinking the brass is about a 35 remington necked down. Always more fun when everything is personally yours.

Brass is slightly larger than a 338 Federal. I can use that data as starting loads. I’ve never worked up its full potential. The gun is cut to fit me and at 5’7” and 153 lb I’m the concentrated version. With the 220 gr Lee at 2300 FPS recoil is starting to rear it’s head. I’m not recoil sensitive but don’t really care for it as much as in my younger days.
With a 2x7- 33 Leupold ,Timney trigger and a Gentry 3 position safety I like this rifle cartridge combo quite well.

Wolfer, your reported ballistics are what I can easily match in my 1886 in 33 WCF. One would expect good results on deer, but it’s nice to see it confirmed.

I remember your comments from years ago about this rifle. Glad to read it is still working well for you.

Those 2-7X Leupolds just may be the perfect hunting scope for deer on up. When the K4 Weaver fogged up on my .30-06 that is what I put on it.

    Classy looking rifle and cartridge.

Sounds about like my .338” 220gr Lee load in my .338MarlinExpress.
I shot two deer with it in 2014. Works well!

I’ve long wanted a 338 Marlin express. Difficult to find these days at a price I can afford

very nicely done. That's a nice trim little deer rifle.
I like the 2-7 x 33 Leupolds too. I have one on my savage 99 in .308 and a ruger 7-08. I had one on my kimber montana for a season.

ID:	293148 Then I didn’t like the steps on the military barrel so I made a shroud to cover it.
