I just finished reading an article on the Milsurp site dealing with Trail Boss loads. They tested several rifles including the Mosin M91/30 using nine (9) grains in all loads with bullets up to 180 grains or so. No gas checks were used. The results were encouraging enough that I'm going to pick up two jugs and sally forth with my 03a3 this weekend and try it.

This will be the first time I've used this powder but it sounds promising from everything I've read. Bulks up in the case and proved to be economical according to the writers.

Yesterday I shot 50 rounds loaded with 14.0gr of TB and a RanchDog 311-165. Being the first cast bullets the rifle has seen it looked promising. About 2" at 50 yards for 5 shots offhand.

There is room to go up in the load, I use 14gr in my 300 savage, I like the powder for everything from 22 hornet to 500 S&W.

dk17hmr, Have the RD 165 mold, and wil give it a try with your load in the Mosin.
Would be interested in your load with TB in the Hornet as well.

3006guns, Let us know your results please.

3.3gr in the hornet with a 225415, no gascheck, lubed with a light coat of LLA than 2 good coats of JPW. Dont know the velocity but its not really loud and it does bring squirrels out of the top of oak trees.

Vintage Rifle, Thanks, great thread! Have a few Milsurps in various cals that I will try it in.

DK17HMR, Nice pic. Am curious however about the lite coat of LLA and then 2 coats of JPW. Obviously works, but wonder how you came across that combination, and if you tried a heavy coat of LLA, etc.etc.etc.?

I just dont like the smell of LLA after a few shots. I read about JPW awhile ago and tried it on some already LLA bullets. Than I saw that BoerRancher does the same thing, it works well so I stuck with it. I dont to all my bullets like that but plinkers and low velocity stuff I ussally do.
