What range are you talking about? If this is with cast bullets the 338Win would be better because of the smaller case capacity and the velocity limitations of cast bullets.

Might be. What if all you own is a 338 Lapua that shoots buck a piece bullets.

Velocity limits for cast go away when you take the time to paper patch. That said you do have to match the BHN to the velocity for best performance on game.
45 AUTO! Because having to shoot someone twice is just silly!

I was staying away from patch bullet just to keep it simple.

Duke, if you already have the 338 Lapua then I would make due with it and use it.

Your only new out lay of cash is for the mould, sizing die, and gas checks.

You should be able to shoot 28 gr of 5744 in any of those 338 rounds and be satisfied with the results. I am shooting the 220 gr Lee boolit in my 338 WM and the velocity is about 1800 but I don't know how that translates to the 300 gr boolit. My 338 WM needs at least 1500 FPS to stabilize the 220 gr boolit.
