Pietta BP Revolvers - Real or Take Case Hardening Finish?

Contemplating a Pietta BP revolver advertised with a case hardened finish. Hoping for the real deal finish, not some painted on fake finish. Anybody know about this?

I believe it is a chemical process used today and not a true case hardened procedure. Still like the look compared to blued or stainless.

My Pietta cap n’ ball revolvers have authentic case-hardening.

They are most definitely very hard, and have colors but I can't say if the two things happened at the same time. I wouldn't sweat it, they work and look good as is.

My 1997 Pietta has a duller CH finish and I always thought real.

I took the finish off my 1860 to age it, it seemed case hardened but it is lacquered.

I can't answer for either the Pietta or the Uberti models to faux or real. I also like the case hardened look over the plain blue and I think you will be happy with it.

I own a byner of Ubertis as well as Piettas. I do know that when I "aged" my Uberti '51 Navy, the blueing came off easily with the parts wrapped in paper towel soaked in vinegar overnight - but not so for the case hardening on the frame. I find the case hardening on most ofd the C & B revolvers to be "subtle" and more like what you think of as far as true casehardening. IMHO, some of the "case hardening" on the receivers of some of the Uberti rifles and the Henry rifles is a bit "gaudy" - but different strokes for different folks.

I have owned a number of '51 Navies during the past 50 years - now own 5 different Ubertis - but Pietta makes a good revolver - I own three of them - all '58 Remingtons - 1 Army and 2 Navies - and they all have been excellent revolvers right out of the box - excellent fit and finish, crisp actions and a real joy to shoot.

Good luck with your '51 Navy - IMHO one of the best revolvers ever made and no wonder it spanned many years of production.
