A question about Felix lube re sodium stearate

I am getting ready to make a real batch of Felix lube, I have about 9lbs of beeswax to work with. I made a much smaller batch a few years back, and I used the same amount of pure sodium stearate as the recipe said to use of shaved ivory soap, the lube came out very hard, and I had to add Vaseline to get it soft enough to use in a lube sizer.

OK now if I make a larger batch, will it be ok to follow the directions but leave the sidium stearate for last, and add a bit and let the lube cool and see how hard it is, then add more, and thus find the amount I need to get the final result I want ??
