Just got my first taper crimp die.

It's a Lee .45acp. I'm looking forward to using it. Tried it out and it makes my S&W 1955 Target pass the plunk test.........

I love the Lee FCD die. When I seat and crimp in one go i would get leading fits. I also hsd issues with feading. Lee FCD die in 9mm and 357 Mag fixed all those issues.

It'll do a good job for ya.

The taper crimp is less finicky about case length than roll crimping.
It's all I use on straight wall handgun ammo.

Taper crimp in a big benefit when loading bullets without a crimp groove. Or loading any any kind of cases that feed from a magazine. Especially when loading on a progressive. A light touch is all that needed. The Lee fcd die will deform your bullets and cause premature mouth splits in your cases.

The only purpose of a taper crimp is to remove the mouth flare on the casing. You can not produce an effective crimp with a taper crimp die. If you don't believe me take a fired 9mm or 45cap and try to get it to hold a bullet by taper crimp alone.

when I was going hot and heavy with 9mm loading I tried something like 4 different brand die sets, I like the Redding taper crimp the best supposedly it was designed to be used with a progressive press. has larger vey polished opening at the base
