Our heat wave is ending this eve. It's raining and has cooled down.

Took this picture at 5.15 pm today. Northern Virginia. At six thirty pm was still 99°F. Just too hot to cast boolets, I was so sad.

43C yesterday in the shade here. 56 degrees north
43C is 109F
Six months ago it was -40C (-40C is the same as -40F)
It is a dry heat so it ain't so bad. I prefer it to -40.
at -40 the cold can kill in an hour or less if you are not prepared
Go now and pour yourself a hot one...
I've been in both extreme heat and extreme cold. Coldest I've been in was in Iowa in a blizzard and it was -60 with wind chill. Car broke down and I walked the last 3 miles home. Hottest was in the Mojave desert at 128 degrees while in training at Fort Irwin. Had to wear gloves to touch or armored vehicles, and it was dangerous walking on them since your boots got slick when the soles melted.
I can get warmer easier than I can get cooler, so I prefer the cold. Though I agree it is more dangerous.

Sneaky trick some use, wear a sweat top and carry a big misting bottle of water, then spray yourself down with water to keep cool. Works pretty well.
If it's cold, an ascot will keep you surprisingly warm, even one of a layer or 2 of parachute material.
When I have to do outdoor work in the summer, I wear a boonie hat. It shades your head a little, and I can wet it with the hose and the evaporation is cooling.

News says the heat dome is beginning to shift to the east. Is anyone seeing any relief?
Chance favors the prepared mind.
It was 106 ºF on the range yesterday. Even waiting two minutes between shots the barrel of my 03-A3 became too hot to touch after ten rounds.
We're in for a few days of mid-70's and rain. Typical pre-July 4th weather in central PA.
So who's messing with the weather??? It was 115 F yesterday. It is currently in the high 70's! (the forecast was for 101 F) It may still hit the 100 F if the clouds blow away but this is sort of crazy.
Instead of being 106F here like it was Tuesday, 90F yesterday, it's cloudy, and like 73F here right now.
I think I can stop basting myself in BBQ sauce now, maybe?
Big electrical storm came through the area last night and blew the neighbor's tree into some electrical wires. My 4Runner was parked right under it. I had to come home from work and move it so the utility company could trim the tree. But it did cool off into the 80's.

Glad your vehicle didn't get flambeed!
It's in the low mid 60s here today, the heat started to break yesterday, noticeably so, it was in the high 90s. The humidity is much lower too even though it's showery. I'd like to see it soaking rain for a week, we can use it.
During the 3 hot days we had I asked those folks new to heat pumps if they liked them and the typical response was "Thank GOD for heat pumps!". The A/C is there without noise either inside or out by the outside unit. The cool is just there like being in the theater or mall.
Was snowing yesterday north of Deadhorse AK,Then it warmed up to 37.deg's.
Weather finally broke 54F this morning. I have the sliding door wide open, it's beautiful weather.
87 degrees in North Texas on July 3rd!
I'll take it.
I hope the heat breaks soon for my Northern friends; it's got to be rough for those unaccustomed to it.
