What is a fair price for pewter?

I’m being pressured to sell off my pewter collection by my wife.

None has been melted.. it’s still in it’s original form.

    It’s a hobby!! What can I say?

$150 per pound for the non-collectibles. Do not advertise or sell it for less.
Spell check doesn't work in Chrome, so if something is spelled wrong, it's just a typo that I missed.

Nope. He meant $150 a pound. That way he can tell the wife he tried.

That's what you get for not melting it the second it came into the house

    Lol

    You’re not helping me much

I’ve seen $10 a pound for ingots. My plan was to smelt it down but that hasn’t happened yet.
I’ve been collecting pewter for a few years and have not melted any of it yet.

It like a hobby! I have to admit it is an impressive collection.

I thought most people would like it in its original form so that know what they were getting.

Box it all up to bring it to a be appraised, put the box down in front or behind your vehicle & get distracted. Then drive over it, not being sure what you ran over, drive the opposite way & maybe back & fourth a few times! You can also leave in on the roof and drive away, get around the corner and line it up with your tires making sure it all gets damaged!

Pure tin runs between $24-$33 per lb at Rotometals

Pewter 92% Tin, 8% Antimony is on sale for $23lb

Unless you can sell your pieces for more than $30lb+, probably closer to $40 is what it may cost in the future to replace if you need to buy any retail.

Let this be a lesson to all uninitiated married men. Unless you plan on showcasing/displaying/selling the pewter piece whole flatten it before you bring it home, it takes up less space and is less likely to draw attention/walk off.

I won't pay more than $4.00 a pound for pewter unless I'm running low.

My last deal was 110 pounds at $3 all in original form. I’d buy more, but shipping in raw form is pricey I’d think. If I was in your position I’d convert to ingots, send a couple samples to BNE for analysis and then post on here for $8/lb or thereabouts. Old timers won’t generally pay it, but there are plenty of folks out west where pewter isn’t plentiful and plenty of newer casters that just need a few pounds to get by. I like the coins made by pouring about 1/4” into a mini muffin pan, but mostly just pour Lee pound and half pound ingots (I’m sure they are under weight since those ingot molds are made for lead).

If you can, melt them and make small ingots. If you don’t need the cash, hang onto them because they will only become more valuable in the future.

Cast into small ingots. Tell SWMBO they are lead, 50 cents or less a pound, not worth messing with. That's what I do.

I’ve recently moved and all my casting/reloading stuff is still packed up.
My man cave is almost complete and I’ll be back up and running soon.

I’ll do as you suggest and smelt my pewter into small ingots.
I’ll post in the swapping and selling area when I’m ready.

    Thanks for all the replies

The most liberating day of my life was the day I figured out I probably wasn’t having sex tonight anyway.

My advice is to learn to say no to things you don’t want to do.
