    Scored yesterday!

I hit one of kind of local scrap yards yesterday planning on picking up some scrap lead.

I wasn't really happy about the $1 a pound price but that's what it's going for around here now.

I went in and looked in the bin with the scrap lead and there were a bunch of 67/33 tin solder bars. I picked up 52 one pound bars of solder and 300 lbs of scrap, all the scrap was shower pans and roof jacks!!

Now I need to start turning the haul into ingots!

Almost 35 lbs of tin!!!!!! I'm a bit excited as it's the best tin haul I've managed!

Great score! If you paid a dollar a pound for all of it, in the S&S the tin alone is worth around your total cost so you could think of the 300# of scrap lead as essentially free (of course it wasn't, but the tin certainly made the deal worthwhile).

You're going to ingot up the scrap? The solder is easily stored, and more identifiable and sellable as is.

Leave the solder bars in their natural factory-marked state! DO NOT melt down into silly little ingots. Easy ID that way.

Just cut off what you need or stick the end in the pot and melt off what you need.

It is worth FAR more in the factory-marked bars format than some ingots you make!!!!!!

Nice Score. I'll echo the suggestion of leaving the solder in original form. I melted a bunch of solder a while back and made ingots but mine was in partial rolls with most of the labels missing.

I'm not melting down the bars. Just the lead.
