Looking for info on .358 dia cast bullet weights

I am new to casting but am trying to find out if there is a commercial bullet mold made for the .357 that is heavier than a 180 grain cast bullet mold? I know there is a 180 grain. The readon I am asking is I found some old data from a 45 caliber muzzleloader I now have but it shows info for a 200 and 230 grain lead cast bullet.

Would a heavier boolit fit in your cylinder?

I may have misunderstood the op's question he mentioned a 45 cal muzzle loader so I thought he might be using some type of sabots that take 358 bullets .

I have used the RCBS 35-200-FN in a 357 Marlin crimped over the ogive to std OAL in 357mag brass. It runs about 210 to 215gr with GC depending on alloy.

    Lee mold: C358-200-RF
Note the "C" meaning it uses a gas check.

200 grain in the Lee and Lyman. Thanks. I looked through both Lee website and Lyman mold but must have missed them. Yes it is for a 45 Cal Muzzleloader with a Sabot.

    358-200/35-200 Lee/RCBS .

35-250 RCBS and 358413 i think 250 gr RN Lyman

There are a couple of 220&230 gr moulds as well .

Midsouth Shooting Supplies carries that Lee 200 gr 35 cal. gas check mold when they can get it (currently out of stock). I just chronographed and tested for accuracy that boolit in my 357 mag. carbine. The result made me smile. Using 11.5 gr of AA-9, the mv was 1470 fps and the group at 40 yards was about 1-1/4". That boolit drops from my mold at 204 gr. before gas check.

Thanks for the info. I am using this mold for my 45 Cal Encore Muzzleloader. I found some sabots that allow you to shoot a .358 bullet in a 45 cal muzzleloader. Should increase the velocity and increase accuracy with a longer bullet.

Your muzzle loader has a fairly slow twist. A 200.gr. boolit Will be to long to stabilize, also a 45 caliber sabot will be too short for a 200 grain cast boolit. To get any kind of accuracy you will have to cut the powder load way down and that will limit your shots to short distances. I have been shooting muzzleloader for 50 years. A 158 gr. SWC a sabot is real good out to 75 yards and that's with a 1" and 48" twist. If your twist rate is slower than that a sabot boolit will not work at all.

I looked up your rifle and it has a 1 in 28 twist, that should shoot the 200gr boolit ok but my concern is the length of the sabot.

in shooting 357 long guns with 9mm suppressors most start looking for heavies in pistol bullets, then move up to 358 rifles bullets, in the classics and stickies section is a link to ideal and lyman molds. there you can see an ideal 358238 (220 gr) 358315(200 grain) and 358318(245 grain). the 358318 also has a hollow point version. i can only shoot these in a handi due to length and the handi's long throat. research posts by harrympope or 9x33r on this site. seem to remember him using a cramer 2C mold in 358 also. am limited in other 357 carbine/repeater rifles to 180/200 grainers due to overall cartridge length feeding thru actions. one of these may be the cast you are looking for, for your situation.

The Sabots are just a little big over an inch from the bullet cup to the top of the pedals. Should fit a 200 nicely. The 158 sits down inside it. Thanks for the info.
