    Which Accurate mold for 38 LC?

    Hi everyone,

    I'm the lucky owner of a 38 Long Colt Double action from 1892, with a .375 barrel.
    I've tried some workarounds to shoot it (Minié bullets, HBWC, 38 SC heeled bullet) and I've found heeled bullets to be quite superior.

    I would like to get a mold for it. An Old West bullet mold (heeled bullets, 150 gns) to be precise. But I live in Europe and they don't ship overseas anymore.
    I'm looking for an alternative at Accurate Molds and I've got some hesitations. This model has a generous heel but a small lube groove; this one has the opposite problem and this other one seems to be be designed for rifles.

    In your opinion, what could be OK in .375 heeled at Accurate molds with :
    - generous lube groove;
    - circa 150 gns;
    - easy-to-crimp heel size?

    Thanks for attention,

    TT

    Hello Tatouine,

    I swage the heel for my 44 Colt, about 1/8" long.
    1/8" is plenty long for the heel.

    Look in the Accurate Mold catalog for a mold close to the design of the original bullet and weight. If none there, send the diagram of the bullet to Tom at Accurate with the bullet weight you want and he will make a clone bullet mold. The bullet will not be a pure RN, instead have a 1/8” metplat because Accurate CNC software cannot cut a pure round nose

    Good Luck

    Thanks John, but this is not the heeled bullet. I tried hollow based (Minié) .357 bullets, and the accuracy is poor. I want heeled bullet ; the Old West Mold is just perfect, that's the shape I would like to get. The best I got for those is a 1923 Ideal Catalog with tiny sketches...
