Been kicking around getting a new scope besides big box store ones. But.......

I was going to get scope like a 200.00 vortex or something long those lines. Im going to wait now. Reason is.
I was looking across town. Through an upstairs window with my Simmons pro-target scopes. They go up to 12x. Anyways i could see the shingles on houses 10 blocks out. Very clearly. And then on top of the mountain i could see grave sites flags. Im not going to shoot that far anytime soon. Most i can shoot is 200 yards at the gun club. So i think i'll hold off on buying a higher end scope. Just something i wanted to share.

I like the lower powered ones for hunting since the field of view is larger, and I can acquire a target a little quicker.
When I dressed up my 7Mag, I was happy with a straight 6X Simmons.
I also wasn't shooting out past 250 yards either.

Awesome ED. Im real satisfied with the Simmons scopes. Only had one bad experience with one. And it was the rings. They striped out when i snugged the scope up. The screws were thinner than most.

I think what you can get in a $200 scope from leupold or vortex are pretty darn good. I think you will have a very difficult time finding fault with a 2-7x vortex diamondback. I know recently leupold has been going though model changes but the vxII 2-7x is very bright and clear too.

I like the Nikon Pro staff. Unfortunately they stop producing them. It was a lot of scope for 150 bucks. I would wait until after hunting season and get them on sale.. I have two those and they are both 4 to 12 with ballistic reticle. I mostly use it on 4 while hunting. But it's nice to zoom in while at the range for the 200 yard practice. Balistic reticle takes the guess work out of bullet drop.

I have a Weaver scope aswell on another rifle. It came with the gun and is nice. Its just as clear as my Nikons.

I have had very very good luck with my Simmon's Scopes. Some bought online for full price. Some scored NIB at pawn shop for 1/3rd of new. All have been very good, very clear. and the 4x12's I bought for my 2 favorite rifles have tightened groups considerably at 100 yards. Good enough for me.
I truly believe we need to get back to basics.

I only use, a Leupold base, and I think they're Redfield rings, they have the (allen) screws come up from the bottom.
The top of the ring is smooth. They probably don't work any better or worse than any others, I just like the style.

    Stripping was never a problem,
However; tightening them down until the make a 'waist band' on a scope is something to watch for.

I ordered one of these. It will be my 3rd UTG scope. My other 2 are lower power.

Scope came today. Boy is it big lol. I hope it will be alright. Ebay seller dropped shipped. From a company that buys returns and overstock. I hope it wasn't a return. It didn't look like it was installed prior. No markings in the scope mount screws. I have it mounted and bore sighted. Plan on shooting with it. The next day or 2.

Here is my range session. Best shots were with 24 grains of varget 55 grain Berrys bullets. i had some light loads with 9 grains of red dot. With 55 grain bullets from Rock mtn reloading. They opened up at 100 yards. Also as the barrel got hot groups opened up. 50 yard target center mass and head shots were with the varget loads. Left upper target was with the red dot loads. The 100 yard target. Centermass was the varget loads. Head and left target was the red dot loads. As to the scope it's self. Im very happy with it. Clarity was good at all power ranges. I did use the paralax settins too for each yardage. I need to work on my steadiness. My son took out some clays at 100 yards with it. Getting old sucks lol.
