Question 30-30 loads, with x-700 or HP-38, can it be done??

Hi Guys as we all know powder can not be had for any money and as i have ordered 50 years ago I still wait for rifle powder,,

so I do have some Primer for rifle and some powder for pistol shotgun,,
as you see it's x-700 and HP-38 fast I know,
I have read of some loads for rifles made from some pistol powders but I dont know of anything i have to shot this / these guns that I have

Has anyone ever worked up loads for there 30-30 useing fast powders like that I have?
    what was it,
I would love to plink with these 30-30s but as I say got-nut-in to play with

(Any one near Hazard, Kentucky, have a Pound of Powder, and fist full of boolits to sell, till I do get mine?)

and to add insult, I am new to brass, we have loaded thousand + pistol and shot them but to date no rifel loads

so asking those in the know (That be you Guys)
    for whats wit-da whats

Let me know if you may have done some silly stuff like this,,

man if da zombies show up now i am screwed, well I still have postols and few OEM Loaded shells so
I'l be ok if i keep-em in line, and up close for now,,, hahaha

Ok Thanks for any "Sound Tested Ideas" you may have

    http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...-Dot-amp-700-X

    Thread: Red Dot & 700-X

    POST#7 Linstrum Posted;

.30-30 Winchester. Lyman 46th lists a sort of universal load for that
class of old lever gun cartridge that is
around 7.0 grains max of Red Dot with a 170 grain cast boolit.

    And that
The two are so similar that any data you find
for one may safely be used with the other powder.

    Sound right??
Anyone loaded this and Still have hands, eyes, ect?and and still here to tell me more about it?

I really just need to be sure before I go off any Internet posts, not that i dont belive but we need to be safe and sure

Please let me know your thoughts good and bad if you loaded this one

I know Red Dot works well, so long as you don't overdo it. Those others I have never tried.

Lyman #3 Cast Bullet Manual shows 700X starting at 6.0 grains for 30-30. It goes up to about 8.9 grains. This, of course depends on bullet weight. But, almost all start at 6 grains.

    Good Luck,

    I like 6 grains of Red Dot in my 7.62x39 with 185 grainers...and that's a bit smaller than a 30-30...

You can use 700X in the amounts others have posted but remember these are light plinking loads. Do not try to get close to factory velocity with the fast powders.
I really like the light loads of pistol/shotgun powders, almost recoil and usually very good accuracy.

I have used WW-231 with light boolits, the 311-316 120 grainer, in the 30-30. 7.5 grains with Large pistol primers. I did not experiment much more, as that load worked well enough for my purpose. I have used Unique and Herco for many, many light loads. 8.0 grains of Unique or 8.5 grains of unique under a 311-245 or 311-419 are excellent and group very well at 50 yards, but fall off at 100.

    Sparkz,

I found this thread... it gives some recommendations for fast powders like 700-x (or Bullseye) in 30-30... There are links to other threads and web pages in some of the posts, too...

    http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...eye-and-Unique

The link to Whisper Loads includes a recipe for 2.0 grains 700-x and a 150 grain RCBS boolit for 614 fps...

I would not go as low as 2 gr of any powder in a 30-30. I'm pretty brave when it comes to mouse-loads, but I check the barrel after every shot...EVERY SHOT. I'm squeemish to go below 5 grains of any powder in a 30-30 sized case (actually in a 7.62x39 case 5 gr is minimum for any powder I've tried.)

Have you ever stuck a round in the barrel? Trust me, you WON'T do it twice.

Just the thought of 2 grains of shotgun powder in a rifle just scares me...especially with a j-word.
