    Old Blue Dot

All, Months back I bought several jugs of powder (Blue Dot, Longshot, HS-7) from a guy that had bought out a shotgun reloader's estate. He threw in a card board container of Blue Dot for free that he said had been opened and was purchased in 1996. He said that it was opened but when I checked it out this morning I pulled the factory seal. I noticed this week that the bottom of the container had rust on it so I moved it to another plastic jug and labeled it appropriately with a marker as well as taping the original label to the new jug. I see a little bit of rust on the inside the bottom and powder is a little darker than current Blue Dot. No strong or acidic smell and in fact it smells like my other blue dot except I can smell a hint of card board. Here's my question, do you think it's any good to use?

Definitely not. You need to send it to me for proper disposal.

I would think it would be fine to use.

You'll shoot your eye out kid.

You need to let one of us older guys load & shoot a couple thousand rounds of it first.

I am still using up a 5# keg of Hercules Blue Dot I bought in 1994 and it works as good now as it ever did. I hope yours does the same.

I'm using up some IMR 4350 that has a $3.95 price tag on it. I have absolutely no sense of smell so I rely on visual clues. I believe your powder will be fine.

96? I thought you were asking about old powder. Use it.

I am loading out of a 8# keg of Red Dot I bought in the 60’s. Still works fine.
