    Expansion of coated COWW bullets?

    Noob here.

Somewhere in here I was reading a thread that was talking about relatively soft lead bullets, but coated, then loaded to supersonic velocities not being a problem with leading. Of course bullet fit must be good. Think I can find that discussion? No, can't find it. Basically my take away was that coating made lead hardness a non-issue within reason. But that's just to set up my question.

Would a bullet like that, and I'm thinking COWW lead, and a bullet @2000ish fps, would it expand on game? I don't expect a mushroom like with a jacketed softpoint, but would we expect a pointed meplat to mash down on something like deer?

At 2000 fps it should. Usually it will break up at that speed. My 7.62X39 expand at around 2000 FPS but most of the time the tip is sheared off.

I haven't shot much COWW at game, but I've shot some into wet newpapers and they do expand, but also fragment. I have more experience with pure lead on game and I find that to be awesome at velocities under 2300 fps. Pure lead hangs together like bubble gum. Might have to 'speriment with coated pure lead bullets to see how fast they can go.

If I wanted a mushroom I'd use 1:20 or 1:40 alloy with gas checks.
