Frankford Arsenal Platinum Rotary Tumbler - Drum Seals

Anyone found a source for replacement Drum Seals for the big Frankford Arsenal Platinum Rotary Tumbler? Called Battenfield and they're backordered until sometime in May. Looked on Grainger & McMaster-Carr and didn't see anything close to the right size.

I'd make one from either a rubber inner tube or a flat rubber sheet.

I make lots of seals, rubber washers, and shock/dampening pads for old machines.

Most can't be bought now days .
Last ones made were dampening pads for my 1922 Harvey butterfly die filer.

Thanks - I'll hit up a local surplus place & see if they have anything suitable to use to DIY.

Here is a pic of the dampeners I made for the die filer.

I did a restore thread on it on another forum.

You can see the old nasty ones above on the right of the needle nose pliers.
they were pretty much dust rot.

I have a Frankford Arsenal Rotary Tumbler the small one don't know if the case holder is the same size but if it is I can whip you one out I have lots of rubber for making seals, washers, and rings.

Wow, that's a very generous offer! By my rough measurements, the existing two seals are 4-11/16" OD x 3-7/8" ID x not quite 3/16" thick. The rubber material can be compressed when squeezed firmly between my thumb & finger.

Boy! I had all kinds of access to gasket material when I was working. Enough scraps to keep me in gaskets for the rest of my life. That was 15 years ago. The only drawback was the durometer of the material. It had to withstand tremendous spring pressure. We got some material once that the spring pressure squeezed the oil out of the material. Of course we didn't find out until the product had been in service for several months.

I'll bet a lot of us on this board wish we had recognized the utility of various materials that got scrapped out at work.

Hopefully I can get a start on looking for the gasket cutter tonight I know where my material is.

I'll compare it to what my OEM seal is and see if it will seal water tight.

Also need to check your dims. and see if they match my drum seal. ( that would be to easy)

If so I'll get it cut and run a seal to see if it holds water tight.

Thanks - I'm able to still use my worn/torn gaskets but they're not long for this world.

There is this outfit that will make any gasket from your choice of material...

Can you come up with dimensions for this? I have a gasket cutter depending what you need I can knock it out for you if it’s within it’s limits.

Edit: completely skipped over the dimensions. I don’t have anything that will compress with your fingers but I can make it out of Styrene-Butadiene.
