I have a 1889 Belgium and a 1909 Argentine. That 1889 is gonna get alot of respect in its loads. But the 1909 is sporterized and is of coarse a stronger action. But I have no reason to push velocity's.

I have a few molds but would like to focus on the Lyman 314299 & 311284. Both sized to .314 and powder coated.

The '89 is just gonna be shot occasionally and for fun if well
Might try a summer mil rifle match or three.

The 1909 if I find a load, I would hunt it for deer. That 311284 is a HP and taylored alloy would make for a dandy bullet. I wont shoot past 200.

I see a few posts but would love to hear load /powder/ bullet selections and experiences. (With cast of coarse)

My 1909 Argentine is the carbine version (~21" barrel). I use a 170 grain SAECO #44 plain base mold with PC, the Lyman 314299GC with NRA lube, the Lyman 314135GC and I've also tried 311467GC which is a Loverin style. Mine does not handle the 311467GC well at all-- but does best with the 314299GC. Shoots pretty good with the other two, but clearly likes the 314299GC when sized to 0.313.

Loads I use (most accurate based on load ladders for my rifle)

314299GC, 11.5 grains of HP-38/W231 or 10.5 grains of Titegroup. Both run about 1350 fps with my barrel.

SAECO #44 PC, 9.5 grains HP-38/W231. 1370 fps

314135GC, 7.5 grains of HP-38/W231 or Titegroup. The HP-38 load runs 1340 fps, the Titegroup runs 1370 fps

Typically I get about 3" groups at 100 yards on my better days. You'll notice I'm running around 1350 fps for all these loads. Its not that I like 1350, but it just came out that way when I did load ladders. Something about my rifle likes 1350.

I don't have either the 314299 or the 311284 but my as-issued '09 Engineer Carbine really likes the Lee 312-185, PC'd and sized to .314 loaded over 26.0 gr. AA2015 with a dacron filler. Never chrono'd this load but I get sub-3" groups @ 100 yds. and recoil is faily mild. Also have had good results using same boolit over 17.7 gr A2400 for around 1700 fps.

I made up another 60 cases yesterday.

Today is supposed to be warm. Upper 40's... So maybe I build the lil garage for my new hot plate and fire up the pots for some boolits!

My Argentine 1891 loves the Lyman 314299 sized to .313.

My standard load has been 21 grains of Shooter's World Buffalo Rifle. Shoots accurate at 200 yards. I had one of my students shoot it in a service rifle match this summer at 200 yards.

You've got a couple of nice rifles, CW. All my 7.65mm experience is in the '91 Argentine, which is a very similar rifle to the '89 Belgian. I use mostly jacketed bullet loads, but did make up some cast loads using the same Lee mold for .303 British and a moderate amount of H-4895 and it shot well at 50 and 100 yards.

I have shot every 1909 I have owned (as a 7.65) before converting it. All shot pretty well, this one was not any better or worse its just the one that remained 7.65. Im sure Ill find a good shootin load. I just hope its that 311284 cause Id like a HP but if its the 314299 thats what it will be. The thing I "need" is 1800 on target so 1900 ish at muzzle. I should say want, cause as everyone knows less works ok too. I have found magic points velocity wise. 1800 is first and 24/2500 is second. Shock the bullet creats is determinant or coincides with the bullets velocity.

Im gonna try 4759, 2400 and 5744 second two on your recommendations. Keep the comments experiences and recommendations coming!!

Sorry I used JWords in a sporterized 1891 Argentine on a deer once. It was a doe leaping across an open field going at mock one. I backboned it when the doe was a good 8 plus feet in the air. It flipped sideways in the air at the impact and hit the ground after a 45 degree landing and slid a good 15 yards through the snowy field before stopping stone cold dead. It happened probably a good 30 years ago and I can remember it like it happened this morning. One impressive round! I just had the chance to buy a couple of 1891s in 1909‘s for $150 apiece. All original and I should’ve grabbed them up but there are too many guns getting liquidated at the time and I ran out of cash after I bought 7 others.

I'm using an unmodified 1891 Argentine. I get good results with the Lee C312-185r bullet sized to .313". Load is 23.0gr of IMR-4227 (w/ a small tuft of dacron), getting 1940fps. I use Norma brass and some I formed from 30-06 HXP.

My most accurate load is with a NOE copy of the Lyman 311-407 design. It was the most accurate but unfortunately, the flat nose absolutely does not feed from the magazine.
