Having trouble finding a K98a Polish Mauser Front Band.

Mods...could you please move this to the Military Rifle forum.

Hi guys...I started another cleanup project. This one is for a hideously neglected K98a. It's not a S/N match rifle so I'm not worried about that aspect.

What I'm having trouble with is finding the old hinge style front Band that holds the bayonet mount on? Can anyone shed some light on where I might look...or offer one up in a PM. Other than this one damaged piece...the rifle looks salvageable.

Have you tried Numrich or Jack First?

Yeah… but maybe I'm not searching for the right thing. I've been calling it a Front Barrel Band. Anyone know what this part is actually called?

You have a Polish M98AZ, which except for being made in Poland and having a 90 degree squared off stacking hook, is essentially the same as the German KAR98a (with a rounded stacking hook). The part you're looking for is called Front Band, Hinged by Numrich and Front Band, Polish by Hoosier Gun Works. You'll also need the Front Band Hinge Screw. Neither Numrich or Hoosier has one in stock, but you may be in luck:

Otherwise, you'll have to figure a way to salvage the hinged band you have, extract the broken screw and make a replacement screw. The screw only has very coarse threads for about 0.25 inches where the slotted screw head is at the muzzle end of the hinge. The remainder of the hinge screw sharply tapers to rounded point, looking like a thin nail set punch.

muskeg13… .much appreciated…. I placed an order from Liberty Tree.

This is why I ask here… you guys always have good info.

I appreciate the info about the screw too. I'll try to punch it out before taking a cut off wheel in the dremel to it.

I was going to say Liberty Tree. They have been great getting parts for my Spanish Mauser.

This info is good to know.
It just happened that someone brought me a Polish WZ29 last week that has a 98 k sporterized stock on it , that he wants me to restore it to as close to Original as I can.
He brought me a Styer 1912 stock that kind of fits the profile that I can modify to at least get it looking like an original.
The stock is in very poor condition.
But I can modify it as needed , then use it as a pattern to make a new stock on a duplicator since original stocks in good condition are hard to find , or VERY expensive.
