    5.7x28 plastic coating?

I picked up a bunch of 5.7x28 cases at the range. I don't shoot them but I thought I could sell or trade them. I noticed the first time I tumbled them they seemed to have a coating. The second tumble session removed it. I noticed on another forum that someone was asking for 5.7x28 cases that still had the plastic coating on them. Was I not supposed to remove the coating? Are they scrap now?

I used a paint stripper to remove the plastic from 5.7s, tough stuff! I load and shoot them out of a 17" insert in a H&R Topper. I don't think it needs to be removed to reload the cases, but they look much better and I think they would be less likely to pick up grit!
For swaging Just burn it off during the anneal process.

I don't own/load 5.7x28 but from what I've read about this cartridge the coating is an important part in proper cartridge function, so for reloading purposes I'd say it's useless, but can be used as jacket though.

You are supposed to keep the coating on, it aids in feeding through the magazines and extraction.

    In a single
shot application the polymer coating serves no purpose.
In the FN system it was needed to slow extraction till the barrel pressure dropped to a safe level.
The 5.7X28 in a rifle makes a dandy varmint/yard/squirrel gun, I've no other shooting experience with it.

Although you are supposed to leave it there, I would try spraying the reloaded rounds with clear lacquer. I would just load a few to try.

For the Ruger 57 it is advised to leave the coating on and not use ss pins in the cleaning. A bunch of tests were performed with the coating on/off and partially removed from cleaning media. The coating needs to be there to prevent missfeeds, ftf's, etc. Rbuck351 has an idea which is similar to what I thought to do. Way to cold for me to bother with now but I have been trying to accumulate everything I need to load as ammo is non existent and ridiculous prices if you can find any. I have found dies, some brass, and some pulled bullets plus an adapter plate for my Dillon 550. Getting there. Good luck.
