11.15x60R Mauser from Bell 11mm Mauser Base

Not that it was difficult.... I'm debating if I will anneal them before loading...

Bell brass is getting some age on it now, I don't think a light anneal would hurt.

    What rifle?

Must be Spanish Mauser base not the Mauser A base. I was going to make the dies to swage a rim on to belted magnum cases to make a Mauser A base. Never got around to it as I rarely shoot the rifle, a 71/84, and I have a couple of boxes of brass for it.

Buffalo Arms 11.15 X 60R brass made from 348 WCF has the A base rim turned into it. Mine has been working fine for 25 years. I've been tempted to try it but, buying another box of the expensive Bertram was so much easier.

    For the 71/84 Mauser.

If you have an interest in selling your 71/84 drop me a PM. I'd like to get a better condition and full military version as mine is a chopped half-magazine job I got from Canada 25 yrs ago. We don't live far apart...

I'm working on .45-90 to 11.15x60mm. Doing it for a Kynoch conversion of an 1873 Chassepot to the Mauser cartridge. Advantage is the Kynoch conversion has a flat bolt face. No ejector as the paper "needle fire" cartridge had no need for one, but for a single shot that isn't a problem. Just got started on the first ten when this weather shut me down.

Update. I still have the .45-90 cases. Someone in another thread on 11.15 Mauser suggested .300 Win Mag so I tried a few of those from the "I don't have it but might some day" brass box. Turning the belt off without a lathe wasn't too bad. Inserted a boolit and chucked the case boolit first in a battery drill, used a file to take the belt off. Found the Win Mag neck was a bit short to hold the boolit for that. Grabbed a couple of .300 Weatherby Mag from the same box and those worked much better with their longer neck. All three cases worked in the Chassepot chamber, but spring work around the place has kept me from fire forming the cases so far. So there's three options for cases to convert.

I've never been all that comfortable with the unsightly bulge that using a .45-90 case results in when used for either the 11mm Mauser or the .43 Spanish. From what I've read the belted mag cases make okay donors, but they don't have a very large rim for the extractor (if any) to grab.

The converted .348 Win cases I bought when I got my first Remington Rolling Block, an 1879 Argentine, gave me the idea I could convert my own since they were readily available then. Definitely not an easy conversion. but there aren't any weird bulges after firing either.

I have used the 45/90 case for Both also . Yes the bulge is unsightly . I found a Quick fix is a neatly applies piece of aluminum tape around the base appox 1/4 " to 3/8" wide X 1 revolution. It is the stick on Version, do not overlap, The applied Method will somewhat resize as well

I have converted Magnum brass by removing the belt and fire forming, etc. They work fine in the Model 71 but the base is not long enough to catch the extractor on the repeater 71/84 . Old eyes like scopes so I took a good take off barrel from a 71/84 and fitted it on a Remington 700 , magnum action.Click image for larger version.

I don't think I would have ever came up with that idea. How does it shoot?

It shoots very well. I kind of cheat a little in that I had "Boomer Bullet Molds" in Canada make me up a "Postel" type mold for long range accuracy. I also use a RCBS mold which has a flat tip for use in tubular mags. I purchased a reamer so I could adjust the barrel up to a top dead center position and get perfect headspace. I am using a 4198 speed powder and I have most groups under 1.5Inch at a hundred yards .Quite a few make an inch. I am experimenting with lubes and bullet coatings . You know the procedure-alloys and bullet hardness etc. I also have a gas check maker now for this caliber so that is another thing I have not experimented with yet.
