    New Henry 45-70 awesomeness

Here is my newly acquired Henry Single Shot 45-70. What a nice handi little rifle. I was able to get a few shots with it at 40 yards off hand with the open sights and had nice little 2.5” group. The load was a cast 460 grain WFN over a dose of Unique running around 1100 FPS. The scope mount is ordered this rifle screams for a nice 1-5 optic. I am really pleased with this rifle. The fit and finish is outstanding. Smooth running lines the checkering is crisp and clean. The wood ...... that wood belongs on a delux high grade rifle but I will most certainly take it...The trigger is clean crisp and little over travel. The recoils pad is compliant and well fitted and very effective.

That is great news, I purchased one in august but sadly I have not shot it yet. The wood on these rifles is just beautiful. Im a huge fan of single shot rifles. I have 3 Savage 219's and several different barrels for each. I also have a handy rifle and a Rossi wizard. But the Henry is the prettiest rifle of the bunch. It makes me want to go outside and freeze my goods off to shot it lol.

Walked into a small hardware store from which I buy all my guns. There it was screaming my name I spotted it from 30 feet away made my deal and brought it home....I am so impressed with the accuracy of this rifle it’s far better than I am. It’s really a fantastic fun rifle.

Upgraded mine to a Skinner rear and Lyman front. Just waiting for better range weather.

I've never liked the looks of Henry's lever actions. Just look cheap. but I really like the looks of that gun !!

Has anyone slugged the bore on one of these rifles?

I emailed Henry and they replied "Our .45-70 bbl drawings call for a .450(+2/-0) bore diameter."

I just finished putting skinner rear sights on my 45/70 Henry, and Put a medium/tall Lyman 17 similar to RFDs rig, took 4 shots to zero it at 100yds. I have a 30/30 set up the same way and it is a tack driver.

I haven’t sluggged mine yet, it’s been shooting .358 X 325gr FTX for a while. And some cast and sized and powder coated lee 344gr boolits. Sized to .358. With chrono showing 2025 fps. Does kick a little, you got to hold on tight and not let anything get in the way when you touch it off.
