    Smile Rebored Marlin

I received my JES rebored 336c in the mail the other day, had it done in 38-55. Gives me another option for the grandkids to use for deer. I shot it a couple times after a quick cleaning with my handloads of 24 gr. of R7 and the Lee 250 gr fn sized to .378 (as I already had this die) and short Winchester brass...they didin't want to chamber all the way I had to really squeeze the lever to get it closed. The two rounds I did fire leaded severely. Jes did say to size cast to .376- .377 and he mentioned Winchester ammo and Buffalo bore ammo is ok to shoot. I give him a call and he said basically my boolits are too fat...so I have a .377 die coming in the mail as well as some Win. ammo... Now to get the action slicked up a bit, the rifle is still almost new I bought about 12 years ago with maybe 30 rds of ammo shot thru it.

You should enjoy it once you get it figured out. I shot one of his rebores in cowboy silhouette for several years with good results, though I never tried it with smokeless powder. On mine, the chamber is the right length for the longer Starline cases. You might want to check that. It also was a bit rough at first, and a couple of firelapping rounds smoothed it out considerably. That improved accuracy as well as reduced fouling buildup. Keep at it, they work well once sorted.

I know this is apples to oranges, but I had a Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle rebored by JES to 358 Winchester, and out of the gate it was simply perfect. And this is after putting WAY more lead down the tube than copper. No leading, great accuracy, and simply the best thing I did to this rifle.

Jesse Ocumpah rebored a new Marlin 336W to .375 Winchester for me a few years ago, and did an excellent job. The .375 Winchester is the .38-55 on steroids. The turn around time was less than a week, but I live fairly close to him. I highly recommend his work, based on the one rifle he did for me.

    Hope this helps.

Good idea. That would make the scout what it should be. Have to keep that in mind for the future...

I just found that I enjoy the 358 much more than the 308, and this after shooting the 308 Win for more than 2 decades, with several different rifles.

This made things much more simple for me in loading, I really like the 35 caliber in many things lately.

Got a chance to shoot it this morning, yes out in the snow flurries, lol. Using the Winchester ammo from 50 yds open sights and from a rest, first two shots were 8" low, adjusted sights shot 3 more about 4" low and almost touching, wow, adjusted sights again and 2 more shots brought it up to the center though a bit farther apart probably my fault...shoots better than it did as a 30-30.
