What lead mix and cooling method is best for expanding boolits?

So looking to make some HP boolits for my 45 LC and 45 ACP and instead of trial and error I thought I'd come here and see if anyone can help me out!

Only advice I was given so far was to air cool but they never answered if they are cooled slower would they expand better? I was also told to just use the range scrap I have and throw in a pound of pure lead.

Thanks for the advice now just need help with load data for the 275 gr 452. Boolits for my 45lc.

20:1 is my choice for most all my HP hand gun casting. That I want to see expansion. I also Powder Coat.

I would just use the range scrap you have , should be soft enough , air cooled is fine , water dropped or quenched is to add hardness , as to load data , it boils down to what powder then do your load workup . I have gotten away from big and heavy in my 45 colt as I am shooting the Uberti 73 revolver and rifles and the Blackhawk is doing rest and relaxation . Steves reloading data pages has 275 grain 45 colt http://stevespages.com/451p_3_275.html

Your range scrap might work fine just as it is, maybe not. you won't know until you try. You can always add some pure lead, if needed. Here's a good link on hollow-pointing:
