    Lee 358-158SWC GC modding

I’m sure this has been discussed before, but I’m hardheaded so here goes lol. I ordered a Lee 6banger 358-158SWC GC that should arrive tomorrow and I’m wanting to remove the GC shank since I have no desire nor need to shoot a GC. For those that have ventured down this road what were your results? I remember reading somewhere of a fella that does it for a few bucks but I don’t recall his name.

If you have a drill press, you can do it yourself with one of these

    If you need a tutorial...

Shoot as it is without concern about the rebated base of the gas check bullet. Then decide if you want to mess with modifying the mold. It would be a shame to find an undersized casting after you have altered the mold.

Leave it, load some up and shoot them . If they shoot well, call it a day.

I've got that mould in a 2 cav . Less than magnum loads shoot just fine without the check installed mine drop at 164 grs in a soft alloy, if were me I'd shave down the top of the blocks instead of reaming out the GC

I have that same mold design, only a SC SWC HP purchased back when they still made such things. It shoots fine without the check at 38 SP velocities, .357 MAG if powder coated. Every once in a while, I get a wild hair and cast some up. Most of the time I shoot other molds I have but sometimes a pretty, shiny, black SWCHP just looks right. I still use gas checks on occasion when I make some.
