    tripple 7 powder

mabie this has been asked before, but I would like to know if T 777 can be used as a main charge in a flintlock with out a 10 grain charge of BP, ahead of it? and will it go off in the pan as a priming charge? thanks.

A customer of mine uses T7 3f in his Lyman Great Plains 54 cal. Without a Goex mix.

Generally it is harder to light than Pyrodex but there are always exceptions.

Works great as a main charge with no Goex ahead of it.
Does not work for priming charge.

Black Powder Bill & hylander, thank guys for responding to my Query. I wanted to get info. on how and if it would work before I got it loaded and had to get the ball screw out. that takes the work out of putting down the barrel 10 to 15 GRS, of BLACK POWDER be fore the main charge of T777. again thanks. toot.

I use it in several flint guns and cappers as a main charge works fine here in the dirty south. Of course 4f true BP in the flash pan...

I would say it depends on your gun... I'm not sure why, but none of my ml'ers seem to like to the b.p. replacements, unless I use a priming charge of real black. Got tired of slow fires costing a shot. I've also gotten retentive about the breech and barrel being bone dry before loading. This should be a given, but it is entirely too easily overlooked the night before and the morning of!

Why not just use real BP? Can’t find any?

you GOT IT! PYRODEX is entirely out of the question and will never be used! T777, after all was developed for CAP LOCKS. not for FLINTLOCKS". that is one reason that the question was asked.

If it works and you can get it, why not?

Ask one of the Connecticut N-SSA guys to pick some up when they go to VA.
