    RCBS LAM1 stripped threaded rod?

After at least 35 years of faithful service the threaded rod (part # 80093) on my faithful RCBS LAM1 is stripped to the point that I can no longer use it. I should have clarified it’s not the threads on the rod but the top end of the rod that is used to screw it in and out. If that makes sense. An email to RCBS confirms that the part is no longer available . Now what to do?

Just wondering if anyone else has been down this road before? Does anyone have a recommended method of repair?

    Once again thanks for looking.

You might be able to make one from a piece of 'all thread' rod.

It comes in 3' lengths or so, but a hardware store might have shorter ones.

Just call RCBS. They'll probably ship one for free.

I did email RCBS warranty and was told that since my sizer is so old they no longer have parts for it. I did not think to ask at the time if the LAM2 threaded rod was inter change able.

The threaded part of the rod is not stripped but rather the top part where the ratchet go on to it. So I can no longer swish the lube out the bottom (technical term!). I was using a vice grip.

Not too hard to silver solder a new hex section on - you could probably build up the existing part with brazing rod and then file to size if you don't have access to a lathe

I made a whole new rod for my old Lyman 45 on my 7x12 lathe - cheated and silver soldered hex stock on the end instead of milling it to shape

It is a metal rod. File it to a new "hex head" or "square head" shape, one for which you have a small socket (1/4" maybe?) or box end wrench. Grab your small socket wrench (or box end wrench), put on the correct small socket, and ta-da, back in business!
If it was easy, anybody could do it.

Go to a pawn shop that has tools and buy a 1/4" drive socket that will just fit over whats left of the top of the rod and solder or braze it on. Then use a 1/4" drive ratchet to turn it.

Mine is getting worn. My solution was to get a deeper ¼" six point socket to drive it with.

I figure in another thirty years or so I'll have to weld a section of ¼" Allen wrench or other hex stock to it for it to work.

So I received a PM from a forum member that he has a threaded rod that he was willing to send me. It’s in the mail on its way. Wouldn’t even accept postage let alone payment. So a big thank you to Rich/Wis for kindly helping me out. Great people on this forum.
