    Gasoline going up

Gas went up to $3.05 today and that is at an ARCO station. Shell or Chevron are $3.50 or more, depending on the location and that's for their lowest grade. This is just the start. Next year, who knows.

$2.10 in Des Moines, IA. Gas is always expensive in CA.

Locally,, last week they were talking about the .20 cent jump in gas the last few weeks. They blamed the sudden rise on Covid-19 & the pandemic. Funny, that started almost a year ago,, and NOW the price suddenly jumps??

But hey,, surely it wasn't because the oil speculators caused the oil price to jump after the sudden shutdown of the Keystone pipeline?

Best way to get you to want an electric car is to price gasoline around $6/gallon. When was the last time we had high gas prices? That was just their first try. Now it's going to be higher. They will shut down oil any way they can. It's already started.

Gas here is up a few cents, but nothing crazy yet.

Crude oil & gas prices is largely a futures market.
What's coming down the road with the pipeline getting stopped, and drilling permits suspended is
the wells already working will see their production become more valuable as 'competitors' are flushed out of the market.

This effect will continue as the smaller existing wells run out, or the oil under them gets harder and more expensive to get up.

A small percentage of the auto market going to electric cars is fine.
But as more and more come along, the electric grid is not expanding enough to charge all of them.
For those who have seen occasional 'brown outs' from excessive demand on the grid--- you ain't seen nothing yet.

Gas jumped .27 cents a gallon this afternoon. $2.49 for regular and hold on to your knickers by the middle of the year it will probably be over $4.00 a gallon. Those elitists want our guns and money so they can have control of our everyday life. Socialism at its best. Lord help our country.

The socialists are not scared of: 1) high unemployment (more dependency on the Federal government - they WANT IT), 2) high gas prices (it keeps consumption down - they WANT IT), 3) riots in the cities (civil strife - they WANT IT), 4, Oh heck, I could just go on and on...

I can't help but think of the scene in the movie "Doctor Zhivago" where Yuri is pulling out fence pickets with which to keep his family warm. We will get there one day if left up to the socialists now "ruling" our country. The much higher price of all forms of energy is certainly their goal.

I never understood the Democrats passion for hurting and hindering the oil industry.
They're all about getting more tax money, however:

For the taxes on income and per gallon of gas- you'd think they'd want fuel to be as cheap and used as much as possible.
More people making more money in the industry means more income tax revenue, and more tax collected when they spend it.
Cheap gas means people will buy and use more of it, which leads to higher (per gallon) tax revenue.

That's got to be from super high taxes and govt. fees on it.

There's only a few cents a gallon difference more or less to get oil out of the ground, transported,
refined, and shipped to-- or from anywhere in the world.

Here, it jumped a few cents to $2.18 a gallon.
There's all the usual fees and royalties to everyone between the well and our gas station,
but our federal tax is 18 cents, our state tax is 20 cents, and our total cost also includes the local city sales tax.

Without the separate state, federal, and local sales taxes, our $2.18 gallon of gas would be more like $1.64.
Getting that same gallon of gas to Australia can't cost more than about a extra 10-15 cents in transportation expense.

We’re seeing increased employment in the permian basin, that increased production will help to stabilize futures, at least until we start to see additional taxes and regulation on extraction.

25 years ago I was a fan of using taxes to push retail gas over $5/gal to accelerate R&D for electric vehicles and related infrastructure, today I don’t think we have the capacity in the economy to absorb that without significant consequences.
