    Rcbs .223 x-die

I'm just staring to load .223 . I have a Lee die set but went ahead and ordered the X-die based on discussions read here. After ordering I get the message that due to demand it won't ship for probably at least 16 days even though it was listed as in stock. I'm thinking I could go ahead and full length size with my Lee die set and trim to length and load some up then use the X-die to size after firing those rounds. My question is what should my initial trim length be to use the X-die ? I have read the instructions on line since I don't have the die yet but they are a bit confusing for me.

Instructions say to trim to 20thou under maximum length. Notice that is 10thou under most trim to length in reloading manuals. I have a set but think at a "normal" trim to length I'll lose/or replace most before they ever reach the max recommended length.

    Where did you buy it?

I have had one on backorder for a long time.

Initial trim length for 223 Rem is 1.74". Note that the trim must follow full lenth re-sizing.

The X die works as advertised when properly setup.

Thanks for the advice. guess I'll be spending some quality time with the Forster. I can't see buying a power trimmer just to do these cases.

I've used the X-die in .220 Swift and .30-06. Follow instructions and they work very well.

I have a couple of thousand 5.56 to do and I have thought about doing it on a drill press. Not sure if it will be accurate enough but I intend to try it out. I have an RCBS powered trimmer and it works well but it is slow.

Before it's done I may end up with a World's Finest Trimmer.
