anyone ever use navy arms acp 002 percussion caps?

anyone ever use navy arms acp 002 percussion caps?

I have had a old tin of these for a long time.

Any idea how old they are ? When did their production stop?

They still look good to me in the tin.

The tin seems a good way to preserve caps by the way the caps look in the tin compared to the aged look of the tin on the outside.

it appears to me by looking and trying that the navy caps are slightly tighter than the remington no 11 caps.

I fired them on the uberti 1847 walker with original nipples - but not loaded.

3 fired loud. 1 fired medium loud. 2 fired quiet and were hard to remove.

Next I will try them loaded to see if they ignite 40 grains of 777 in the walker.

I use them whenever I can find them. I think they are made by RWS, and rebranded by Navy Arms.

Back in the 70s, they were about all I could find. Remingtons were not often seen, CCIs were well in the future, Winchesters were long out of print, and one trial of the wretched plastic-packaged Traditions/CVA/Fioccis would put one off percussion shooting forever.

Now, of course, there are many choices. Later RWS/Navy Arms tins have a knurl around the outside making them easier to open. But the label and the contents are still the same.

Wow. I remember using those when I first started shooting bp revolvers in 1971. I to think they were made by RWS in Germany.

Yep I have a few from the 70's yet but I'm making my own for the most part now.
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left.

I have 2 Tins of those caps mine say made in England. Would they work in place of Remington #10's? I believe someone said they were smaller than CCI # 11's.

I've had caps just like those, ribbed cap with the same kind of primer compound. Mine were Fiocchi and they came in a blue plastic ''tin'' the same size as yours.

    updated Navy caps info

I now use these only for firing empty caps to dry out the nipples prior to shooting cci or remington #11 percussion caps on the actual loads. They are not a great fit and some might be a little light firing. they seem a little loose to me. just fyi.

But they do a good job saving the best caps.
    Thanks

that makes sense, RWS caps are red label for pistol and green label for rifle I think - we have decent supply of them (both) made about four years back.
