Casting with a mold with 2 different designs

Im curious about molds that have 2 designs in them. For instance a a 4 cavity mold that features 2 cutouts each for both gas check and non gas check bullets of the same shape.
Is there any drawback to just using one side of the mold at a time? Or does this practice cause difficult temperature variations?
I ask because Im considering such a mold.
    Thanks in advance.

No, IME the mold doesn't heat unevenly so you can cast well. You may spill some over into cavity 3 while filling 1 & 2 but they can be easily sorted.

I have a couple of molds with two different bullet designs in each. I haven't had any problems casting with just one cavity, with the exception of occasionally getting a little alloy in the hole I'm not using. The last I ordered from Accuratemolds has two different 45-70 designs. I won't shoot the 45-70 rifles much so having one cavity of each is no handicap.
    Good Luck,

I have been casting for 303 with such a mold, no problems casting with one only.
