I'd probably wipe it out with brake cleaner or Lacquer thinner...but it will likely make some smelly smoke during the first heat cycle whether you wipe it or not. Just power it up outside.

Buckeyeken, I too just bought Magnum Melter. I just filled it and plugged it in. Fluxing after everything is melted will take care of the preservative coating.

I heat them with alloy and let them burn off whatever is there. I too use a magnum melter.
I recently replaced the pot on my production pot. New pot had an oily feel, but I just added lead and turned it on. Kept a window fan running on high until the fumes died down. Then fluxed as normal and started casting. No problem..
