Hold your finger over the top of the tube after releasing your clamp, turn the whole thing over, pull the tube, insert clip.

I always put the exact number of primers in the tube to start with.

I emptied my RCBS primer tube much like mentioned above by reinserting the pin. Then just cycled the tool and picked out 3 primers.

Another design flaw by a newly out of school engineer, half asleep with a hangover. If this tool had Lee on the side it would be trashed unmercifully...

Yet it's held in higher esteem that the APS version. A gentleman with spares of everything loaned me a brand new RCBS tube style bench primer. I bought the APS version and returned the tube style primer. Besides tube issues it spits the last few primers if you're not careful.

I shove a small allen wrench up the tube and start the retaining pin in the hole. Remove the allen wrench and insert the pin all the way through. Hold the tube against an empty primer tray, pull the pin and put the primers back where they came from.

Ideally the plan would be to use the exact number of primers that you have cases for. I bulk reload and don't always count cases.

I do it the same way but use a small nylon cable tie to push them back up the tube.
