    Possible score

So found a guy that has over 3 thousand pounds of range scrap. In the rough.

He's asking .50 per pound but I have to take the whole drum.

Any suggestions on how to get it on a trailer? No lift available at his location.

    Thanks for any ideas!

    Wes

Can you get to it with a wrecker hoist? Is it on a concrete floor or dirt?

I'd take a several 5 gal. buckets, or another drum, and a GOOD shovel.-- not that $5. junky kind from Home Depot.

Ya might have to turn the barrel over on its side to speed up the transfer.

plan on several trips. with a clean bed truck, I would just shovel it in to move and shovel out into manageable buckets, pails or whatever. (round pointed dirt shovel) tip it over on to something clean,- pavement, old tin roofing, old blanket. Plan your smelting so as too load fro, your pile intyo smelter to cut out any intermediate handling.

3000 x .70 = 2100 So minus dirt and jackets this is close to actual weight.

$1500.00 divided by 2100 is $00.71 cents per pound.

Add in gasoline/diesel, travel time, fuel to smelt ingots. It starts to not look so much like a “score”.

I'd offer $750 and explain why.

Do you have a friend with a tractor with a front end loader or rear boom pole or even a forklift? I would punch 2 holes in the top of the barrel, one on each side right below the lip and hook up a nylon sling using 2 clevis and pick it up with my tractor.

Is there any exposed rafters or beams in the ceiling above this barrel? If so maybe you can use a come-a-long to pick it up and back your truck or trailer under it.

If none of the above are possible, divide and concur. Take several buckets and a shovel.

Its going to be a nice score but will also be a lot of work. Big scores=big work! Try to buy it cheap.
