    W748 44-40 load?

    Has anyone tried W748 in a 44-40?
I know it's slow, but I've got a heap of it that I don't really use in anything else so if it works....

I need a starting point for a 200gn hard cast.
    For a Winchester 1873.
I'm not too concerned about velocity.

    Please and thank you.

748 is way too slow and you are going to foul up the action with globs of unburned powder.

Choose a more suitable powder such as RL7 or 4198 for your 1873.

ADI-2207 in your neck of the woods would be the powder of choice.
