    Found some DOT powders tonight

I got a lead on a place in north Athens County that has reloading powders (Rocky Boots gun store). I stopped there tonight. They didn't have any 2400 which I hoped they had. I did get a pound can of Red Dot, A pound can of Green Dot and a pound can of 700X. The red dot I use for wadcutters, the 700X I'll use for .380's. I've never used Green dot. There is good load data for the .380 in the cast boolit handbook. I've read it is used for midrange pistol loads. I'd like to find some good load data for my Charter Arms .44 special 200 grain boolits using the Green dot. I hate paying $26.99 a pound but what are you going to do when powders are virtually non-existant. Last year before all the covid stuff and the unrest riots, these powders were $16.99. The sellers know they have you by the onions as they know they can get those prices now. If you don't have it, you don't reload and shoot. I'll still keep an eye out for 2400. That is my go-to powder for my .44 mag loads and the .410.

I never noticed Rocky having any powder when I was there. Seems like that price is the going rate every where now if you can find it.

They had alot of shotgun and rifle powder. They had 3 cans of red dot and one can of green dot left tonight. Downs gun store at Lake Logan only has shotgun powders. They did have 3 cans of IMR Green, but I don't know anything about that powder so I passed on it.

All of those are great handgun powders and I've had good results with all three in cast rifle loads too. I use a ton of 700X in all kinds of stuff.

I was in our local guy's place a couple weeks ago and the powder selection was a bit slim.

They were out of the favorites, like 748 and IMR 4350, but things that don't usually move well in our neighborhood were there.
I grabbed one of the two pounds of Red Dot, and it was about a dollar more expensive than I remember it from last year.

I load 44 Special for my 3" Bulldog with:
    WLP primer
    6.0 grains Green Dot
    200 grain Group Buy Boolit

shoots to the sights @ 25 yards for me.

Alliant data from the 90's listed this load... But start 10% less and work up, as always

Green Dot is a little slower than Red Dot, and Alliant still lists 5.9 grains Red Dot with 200gr Speer GDHP

Thanks Greg !! I have the 200 grain boolit from the group buy also. Currently I have the cup face. I really like my 3 inch Bulldog. I look forward to making some new loads for it. I carry mine in a shoulder holster.

Dang, those prices are about 3.00$ cheaper than my LGS for a couple of year's. That's why I buy 8# when I find them.

Well, at least there is powder available, in my parts, its like the proverbial unicorn. No worries for me, I'm fine.

$17 a pound was more than pre-covid/pre-riiot. Powder has been $25 a pound for 5 years around me. 10 years ago (last time I bought powder) I was paying $20 a pound. Maybe I shop at the wrong places.

The gun club I belong to, sells reloading componants (when they can get them). Three months ago, I paid 30.00 for a bottle of Hodgdon Benchmark. Last week I payed 37.00 for a bottle. Now that's inflation.
    If a 41 won't stop it, I wouldn't bet my life on a 44.

I use a lot of red and green dot in shotgun and pistol loads. Powder in my neck of the woods is $34.99 ON SALE!
