    AR15 to Mini 14 mag

Mini 14 mags seem a little costly from Ruger. I don't think the maglula striplula works on plastic mags because you need the two grooves at the top/back edge of the mag to slide the loader onto.

Has anyone here tried to copy the profile of a Mini 14 mag onto an AR15 mag? The mag might become interchangeable.

Can't remember who made them Thermold maybe? but back in the late 1980's or 90's there were plastic magazines on the market that were supposed to work in both the Mini-14 and AR-15.

I had three of them that did work in the Mini-14 I had then. They went with the gun when I got tired of its inaccuracy. Don't know if they would really work in an AR or not.

Back when I had a mini-14, I had steel magazines for it, and there was no way magazines for it and a AR interchanged.
I'd heard of the plastic ones that would, but never had one to try out.

You might be able to modify AR mags to fit,
but I'd check around some other places to see if, or how it can be done before I chopped one up.

    So, study outside dimensions.
Test sliding the AR mag into mini 14.
look at the mini 14 locking system.
Can the AR Mag be made to lock in with the mini 14 locking system.

I bought mine so long ago that I have no idea how much I paid for them, 30+yrs ago. Never tried Thermold, never even seen one.

I just use the 5 rounders, never one to spray.

I did ask the Magpul folks about Mini-14 mags. They do not, will not make them.

If the Mini-14 was cheaper than an AR15, like it was in the 1980’s, and they had cheap mags, they would be popular again.

I sold mine when I joined the army, I wish i still had it, but not at today’s prices

Funny this should come up today? I was just looking at a Thread over at Perfect Union's Mini 14 forum about modding Pmags to work in a Mini 14, and they become interchangeable after the mod.

I watched the video and while the guys workmanship is not the best, he was still able to accomplish the task, and the mags worked in both a Mini 14 and AR.

It would be a great product for Magpul to pick up. But I have tried to get Magpul to produce P mags for Mini's and they looked at me like I was crazy, and then brought out new mags for CZ Scorpions? Which I'm sure are just burnin' up the sales...

Here's a link to the video, have a look it ain't that hard to do.
