    222 work up

Working up the 222 at 100

From prior, I saw 23.5g of h322 was best, working up In 0.5g increments.

    I then narrowed from 0.5 to 0.1 grains 23.3-23.7

All done on Dillon 550 progressive

    First the toy

Starting bottom left and going ccw it was 23.7 then .6 at 7oclock then .5 at 9, .4 at 3 and center was 23.3

I did not have a micrometer with me but it appears that the groups steadily got bigger moving down from 23.7 /23.6
I will have to measure but they appear pretty equal. I also may have to go up 0.1 until groups open up again(seen at around 24.0 last time)

    23.6
I added a spent 22 Long rifle cartridge for some reference, of course this is slightly an optical illusion making the group size appear slightly smaller but nevertheless still pretty good groups for 100 yards/5 shot groups

    23.7

    Now
To do it all again and see if I get similar results along w reverse order for barrel temperature

Then to swage my own and see if I can come close

What brand of barrel is on your 40X Remington, and what bullet did you use? Nice groups.

Original as far as I know, I will look for markings
I have about 4-5 of these and to my knowledge not rebarreled.
(I’m not sure if 40x factory barrels are outsourced)

Generally I prefer Unertl or Mitchell scopes but this one came w Lyman so I just kept it.

Will check on projectile but I think 40g Sierra blitzking
My 40x 22-250 loves same round

Here is my wallet group 5/100y for 22-250

    222 isn’t far off!

222's just seem to always shoot well, I have 5 and every one is a shooter. still like my 4198 powder in all of them.

I had one 40x many years ago. 19.0 grs IMR 4198 and the no longer made Remington match hollow point and 7 1/2 rem primer (the copper colored one) or at least it was when I used them. 222 is basically a no brainer as it will just about shoot lights out with any good match bullet 52-55 grs. those Remington match bullets were really good, too bad they quit making them. still have 7or8 boxes, still use them once in a while.

The .223 is almost the same for field useage, at least I keep trying to tell myself that; but I still miss my old 788 in .222 Remington. It absolutely loved a Hornady 50 gr SX atop AA1680 sparked off by a Fed 205M.

I had a couple friends back then that used to be serious bench rest shooters who when they found out that Remington had discontinued making the 52-55 grain bench rest bullets had bought a few cases as they shot that good. The rest of us not being that serious just swapped the Sierra 52-55 grain bullets instead. Frank

Post once you start using cast in it. I have the same in 222 Rem Mag and 223 Rem, (bought here from Mike & Barb), would like to try cast in those or a Rem 700 or 788 in 222 Rem. Would like to shoot some prairie dawgs with cast some year.
Take a kid to the range, you'll both be glad you did.
