    Winchester/Miroku 1866 24" 38 SPL

    Hello friends,

There is a gentleman locally who is selling one of these rifles at a very good price. It has a 24" octagon barrel and is chambered in 38 SPL.

What are your opinions on this rifle? I have never considered this particular chambering before.

I have never fired any 1866's or 1873's for that matter. I own a lot of Marlins and Rossi 92's.

This rifle is brand new and unfired. It looks amazing. I am hoping for experiences and/or opinions.

    Thanks in advance,

    Steve in N CA

I own a Miroku Winchester, model 92, 1 of 500, in 32/20. 20” octagon. The quality is outstanding. I would buy that 1866 in a flash.

I own two Miroku/Winchesters. I agree, the quality is outstanding. If the price is that good, don't let it get away. You will hate yourself later. At the worst, think of it as an investment.

I have a Browning , made by Miroku I think , model 53 . Quality is fantastic , accuracy great and I couldn't be happier with it . I can't imagine passing up a deal on a great plinker like that one .

I passed on a Miroku made one about a year ago, I had it in my hands , it was beautiful. I put it back on the shelf and though about it, went back a week later.... gone. been kicking myself ever since. Oh yea, its not the first time I've done that! slow learner I guess. I would just buy it.

I certainly will. I pick it up from the FFL on Monday. I have Tuesday off so I will give it a workout.

I'm sure that you will be happy with this rifle. The quality really is excellent. But, I hope that you had the opportunity to shoulder it and aim at something to get a feel for it though.

From experience, as a Miroku 1873 short rifle owner, I can tell you that the 1866 and 1873 Winchester rifles don't have the same handling characteristics as 20th century lever guns. They take some getting use to because the stock has more drop than a modern Marlin or Winchester and you really don't get a good cheek weld. But, if you want an authentic old-time lever gun, then you adapt.
