Pyrodex v goex/ old eynsford or the one that started with a S

What is the difference between pyrodex and the old eynsford that I’ve been using?

Ahhh...a question sure to bring in many answers. Old E is black powder. Pyrodex is a black powder substitute, not black powder at all.
Pyrodex can be substituted for black powder by volume, but not by weight as Pyrodex is more powerful per oz. In other words, if you have a powder measure set at 70 gr. of black powder for your muzzleloader, you can fill it up with Pyrodex and safely use it, but a weighed 70 gr. of Pyrodex would perhaps be unsafe. Many claim that Pyrodex is more corrosive than black powder, but I've used it exclusively for years and have experienced no problems as I clean my guns after a shooting session.

I use old eynsford and that one that starts with a S exclusively for bpcr loads and a guy near by has several Lbs of pyrodex 3f for sale that I almost wouldn’t mind trying just not sure what I’d have to change

I use pyrodex for my in line. Goex in my flinter. My neighbor keeps telling me i need to use triple 7. Claims it's less corrosive. But i clean my muzzle loaders after an outing.

Pyrodex is horribly corroding, even if you DO clean them. Real Blackpower not nearly so much, especially if you use enough lube. I have 5 pounds of it I can't even give away to the BP shooters I shoot with.

You can argue opinions but it's harder to argue personal experience.

30+ years ago when I first started loading BP cartridges I was afraid of BP fouling. Back then all I heard was how corrosive black powder was. Following most recommendations I cleaned with hot soapy water, sprayed every thing down with WD-40 to displace moisture, then wiped it dry. I managed to get pitting in the barrels of a Rossi Overland Shotgun and the chambers of a Uberti SA revolver. When I switched to real black powder I continued the same cleaning procedure, and never had a spot of rust or pitting in 12 years of shooting weekly.

Just my opinion, but as one who has had a few crowns done & never liked the experience, to me Pyrodex smoke smells just like burning teeth.
It can turn a fun outing into a flashback of dental work & money spent.

Your question is too vague. People have given you truthful answers but it is hard to tell what you really wanted to know.

Pyrodex is a powder that is safe to shoot in black powder firearms but it is not black powder. You can find it at places that don't sell black powder. It works fine if you follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Thanks I passed on picking up the pyrodex I remembered people saying it was more problematic then real bp but I couldn’t remember what the problems were. didn’t want to have something that wouldn’t be worth a crap in the shop. Thanks again for the insight

I have both Pyrodex & Triple Seven and if it sets for a couple of months it becomes cakey and needs to be busted up and it compresses hard as a rock.

There is ample reason many call it "Pyrojunk." If it was all I could get I'd use it but hopefully I have no issue with that for the remainder of days the Lord has granted to me.

I had to give the rifle with the powder to get rid of it, I was moving and I gave one of the movers a Knight in-line and four pounds of the stuff he was a happy guy. So was I.
