IMR Green loads pistol or rifle loads?

It was the last powder on the shelf at the store. It was cheap.

    Anyone have a load for 38 special, 44 mag, 308, 30-06?

Seems like using Green Dot data by weight would be a place to start.

I have the Lyman 47 with Green Dot data.

Using Green dot data is probably Ok as long as you know your gun has plenty of margin.

If I was trying out a load for a gun that might not be able to handle pressures above the SAAMI rating, I would be very tempted to use Red Dot data. Red Dot is a very similar powder that is just a smidge faster than Green Dot and substituting a slower powder (IMR Green) for the listed powder (Red Dot) is probably just a little bit safer.

Part of my leaning toward Red Dot data, is also a concern over the available Green Dot data. A lot of data is out there that was developed without the newer more accurate pressure test equipment.

The Color powders are VOLUME replacements for the DOT powders.

IE: They use the same bushing when loading shotshells. Weight may or may not be the same.

    Glad I asked.

Using Red Dot data would be more plentiful too.

Is there volume to grain info easily understood data around? I don't load shotguns.

It looks like from the data at Hodgdon and Alliant that the weight and volume correspond one loading situation I examined.
