    Winchester 94 AE date help

Can someone give an age estimate for a 94AE # 6024xxx please? Six million.

When I called I thought I was looking at a jap 94, the seller advertised "almost new". Well this has been in his safe for almost ten years after being fired six times when he bought it "new". Now checking, this must be older.

Crossbolt safety tells me before 2003, some google told me #65xxxxx is 2003-2006... so can this be from the 90's?

How was the quality in the late 90's?

The reason I'm looking at this is, it could be a dedicated cast rifle for sports/fun, not so much need for anything "real" now. It is a nice deer gun if course.

    Thank you.

Now the guy found a CIP proof stamp marked 1992.

So much for a "new" gun.

    Oh well.

    .

Most likely made in late in 1993 or early 1994.

The Model 94AE's were made w/o an extra safety from 1983 to the introduction of the CBS (crossbolt safety) in 1992, around SN 6,000,000.

(The tang safety came in 2003, around SN 6,450,000.)

At that time, Winchester was making about 10,000 Model 94AE's per year, and the quality didn't start to fade (due to labor disputes) untlil after the tang safety came about.

All Japchesters have a tang safety. so that should have told you it was made in New Haven.

They're good rifles, with a forged steel receiver like the pre-64's - so, enjoy your pristine baby.

    Thank you Pietro.

Yeah I got this pic after emails,SMS:s, phone calls. The guy said it's a new gun... "new" can mean different things.

And the CIP stamp is -92 so it's quite clear.

I didn't buy it or anything yet. Asking price is the same that buys a new one.
